Who wins if the two NBA Defensive Teams play?

Posted on: May 12, 2008 4:17 pm

The NBA All-Defensive Team was announced Monday and there are few surprises.

The first team is:

SG Kobe Bryant
F Bruce Bowen
F Tim Duncan
F Kevin Garnett*
C Marcus Camby

The second team is:

PG Chris Paul
SG Raja Bell
SF Shane Battier
SF: Tayshaun Prince
C: Dwight Howard

*Defensive Player of the Year

Here's what I would like to see. A first-to-9-points contest between the two teams during next year's All-Star break.

If they squared off, who would win? Since these two teams aren't built like real teams (more so for the first team), there would be some interesting matchup issues.

Who guards Chris Paul? Which big man does Dwight Howard bang around with? Will Kobe and Raja come to blows?

Despite the lack of firepower on the second team, I think the first team's lack of ball handler will spell doom for it.

I'm going Second Team 9, First Team 7 with the MVP being Shane Battier for his clutch 3-point shooting and surprisingly stifling Kevin Garnett.

No love for Crash?

I guess Gerald Wallace's 2.1SPG 0.9BPG 6.0RPG just isn't as sexy as I thought it was. He also missed 20g.... but I digress

To stay on topic: Team 2 wins in a landslide just as long as they hack and slash, team 1 dominates the paint.

There is no defense in the NBA.  Hard fouls go completely unnoticed and allowed, but the fouls are called when there is no contact at all.  Or if there is a death, then a foul is called.  And a technical is only called at the end of the game  when the team that would get the best ratings in the Finals is losing.

I like team 2, but Dwight Howard has a couple of big men to handle, so i'll go with team 1 even thought hey don't have a prodominent ball handler. I doubt Howard could take Duncan, Garnett and Camby.
