The First Team is:
- SF Jeff Green
- SF Kevin Durant
- SF Al Thornton
- PF Luis Scola
- PF Al Horford
The Second Team is:
- PG Juan Carlos Navarro
- SG Jamario Moon
- SG Rodney Stuckey
- SF Thaddeus Young
- PF Carl Landry
So again, which team would win in a first-to-21 contest? Like the All-Defensive teams, the first team is poorly constructed from a team standpoint. It's just a collection of good players, who all happen to be large human beings.
Sure, Green can handle the ball a bit and Durant and Thornton have some range, but this team will have a paint edge – at least when playing the smaller Second Teamers. Scola helps offset a serious lack of grit, but man, this team isn't built for anything, really. Sure, they'll score, but they won't move the ball well, they won't really rebound all that well and in the paint, they'll be strong, but not Barbara Bush strong. It's a team of big guys who slash, which is OK.
But that second team is sexy to me. I didn't like when the Wizards unloaded Navarro, and he showed flashes of being a solid point guard. He'll run right through those first teamers like dairy through my lactose-intolerant gastro tract. Moon and Stuckey add some versatility and 3-point lovin', while Landry can negate his teammates’ grit factor. Sure, they'll get beat up on the inside and keeping check of Horford may be tough, but this team is much more complete than the first.
I like Second Team 21, First Team 15.
